What are the daily pooja rituals performed at the Guruvayur Temple?

The Guruvayur temple is renowned for its unique rituals and poojas. The temple has a great culture of following specific rituals during specific times to maintain the spirituality and divinity of the place.

The rituals of the temple begin with the nirmalyam. The pooja is performed in the early morning time and the devotees can enter inside the temple for darshana. As the next step of nirmalyam, the priests perform the abhishekam.

It is the procedure of taking out all the flowers and decorated items from the idol and conducting a sacred bath for the deity and it helps to purify the deity. The next step is alnkaram which includes decorating the idol of the deity with fresh flowers and other materials.

Morning Usha pooja and during noon time ucha pooja are performed. These are considered the major offerings of the day. It provides a grand feast with cooked rice and sweets for the deity.

After that, the temple remains closed until the evening. The temple will re-open for the deeparadhana in the evening and it creates a peaceful atmosphere and uplifts the spirituality within the mind of the devotees.

Later athazha pooja (night feast) the idol is out in procession and rotates around the temple and it is referred to as seeveli.

Thrippuka is considered as the last step of daily rituals of the guruvayur temple and it is the process of cleaning the temple for maintaining purity.
