The Guruvayur temple is one of the ancient temples of Kerala and it is famous for its unique rituals and customs. The temple is located in the Thrissur district of Kerala and the presiding supreme deity is lord Krishna, the 9th incarnation of lord Mahavishnu.

The temple has a unique style and timings for the rituals and it performs every day. The morning rituals start with the normal darshan and the devotees can visit the temple during this time for prayers.

The idol of the lord Krishna is fully adorned with flowers and ornaments which were used last night. As the next step of the ritual, the priest performs a sacred bath for the deity and it is known as abhishekam.

Usually, it is performed by using natural substances such as ghee, milk, curd, etc. After finishing the sacred bath the idol is decorated with fresh flowers and ornaments and transforms the deity into a divine child.

Later the deity is treated with delicious food which includes cooked rice and sweets. This ritual is called Usha pooja and pantheeradi pooja is performed during the mid-morning.

The temple also has a wide variety of offerings such as thulabharam, chorunu, vidhyarambham, etc. and the devotees perform different prayers like namajapam, bhajans, kirtans, and pradakshinam.
