The Famous Deity At Guruvayur- Lord Krishna

The Guruvayor temple is an ancient Hindu temple that is famous for its divinity and spirituality. The temple is located in the Thrissur district of Kerala. The presiding supreme deity of Guruvayur temple is the lord Krishna.

Lord Krishna is worshipped here in his childhood form and it symbolizes divinity and innocence. The deity is also called Guruvayurappan and is also referred to as Balagopala ir Unnikrishnan.

The idol was before worshipped by the Mahavishnu, Brahma and later Sree Krishna in Dwaraka. So it is considered a sacred one and it is around 5000 years old.
The idol of lord Krishna is in the form of a four-armed Vishnu carrying weapons in each hand to protect the truth.

The lord holds the Padma (lotus) in the lower right hand. The padma symbolizes the purity and unfolding of creation. On the upper right-hand sudharshana chakra is present, it is the weapon of lord Visnu which symbolises the cycle of time.

On the upper left hand, the divine conch, and on the lower left-hand Kaumodaki (mace) is present. All these things represent divine sound, strength, and protection. The idol is in a standing posture and it is made up of black stone called Krishna shila.

The name Guruvayurappan is obtained from the three words, guru, vayu, and appan. Guru is the one who installed the idol and the vayu is the one who carried the idol. Appan is a loving Malayalam word which means father or lord.

The word Guruvayurappan which is means the lord of Guruvayur. The devotees of lord Krishna strongly believed in Guruvayurappan that all their wishes come true by praying to their lord. Millions of people visit the temple, particularly from the south India.  The devotees experience more spirituality and peacefulness by worshipping Guruvayurappan.
