The Guruvayur temple is one of the most revered and prominent Hindu temples in Kerala. It is located in the Guruvayur town of Thrissur district of Kerala. More than a local temple the Guruvayur temple is considered one of the most attractive pilgrimage sites in south India.

People across the states are well aware of the Guruvayur temple and a massive flow of devotees from various states is observed in the temple. The temple’s supreme deity is lord Krishna and worshipped in his childhood form and the idol of the lord Krishna was before worshipped by lord Mahavishnu himself. It is believed that the idol was around 5000 years old.

The Guruvayur temple follows unique customs and rituals. It also has a variety of offerings that are not there in the other temples of south India which includes offerings such as thulabharam, vidhyarambham, and daily nirmalyam darshana etc.

The temple also has a special area for traditional art performances such as kathakali, ottanthullal, etc. It attracts people from various parts of the world to visit the temple. Lord Krishna is considered as the most prominent deity of Hinduism.

The devotion towards the lord Krishna and the devotees of Krishna is spread everywhere in the country. Like the other major Vaishnava temples such as Tirupati, and Madurai Srirangam; the Guruvayur temple also has similar significance among the devotees of Krishna.
