Guruvayue Temple in The Ancient times, A Historical Overview
The Guruvayur temple is one of the most prominent Hindu temples which is located in Kerala. The supreme deity of this temple is lord Krishna, the 9th incarnation of lord Mahavishnu.
The lord Krishna is worshipped here in his childhood form called bala Gopalan. The idol of lord Krishna was consecrated by the guru of gods and the vayu.
It is believed that the idol was before worshipped by Vishnu, Brahma and later Krishna in Dwaraka and it is around 5000 years old.
In ancient times the idol was worshipped by lord Krishna at Dwaraka and when he returned after finishing his earthly life lord Krishna instructed his devotees to take care of the sacred idol.
The land Dwaraka was submerged in the sea. The devotee named uddhava retrieved the sacred idol from the sea with the help of the guru and vayu. They started searching for a perfect place to install the sacred idol and found the guruvayur.
At that time lord shiva and Parvati were already residing there. The guru and vayu requested lord shiva to move and he agreed to relocate from there. Then they re-installed the sacred idol of lord Krishna in the malayadri, present guruvayur.
